James Lopes, M.D.

Dr. Lopes received his Bachelor of Science with distinction in neurobiology from Yale University in 2000 and his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, in 2004. Dr. Lopes finished his general surgery residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis in 2009. He then went on to complete a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he gained exposure to advanced laparoscopic procedures as well as bariatric surgery.
Dr. Lopes has an active medical license and is board certified with the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Lopes has contributed to several different publications, and presented them at various internationally recognized conferences. He has several professional memberships, including American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
Dr Lopes' interests include laparoscopic esophageal surgery, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, laparoscopic paraesophageal hernia repair, laparoscopic splenectomies, laparoscopic adrenalectomies, laparoscopic colon and small bowel surgery and laparoscopic bariatric surgery- including gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomies.
